Breast Health

on .

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States, affecting women of all races and ethnicities. Widely heralded declines in mortality from breast cancer have been notably more pronounced among white women, underscoring the need for more effective strategies to promote breast health among women of color.

Managed by CAI and funded by the Avon Foundation for Women, the Avon Breast Health Outreach Program (BHOP) funded community based organizations nationwide to link low-income, minority, and medically underserved women to breast health education and screening services. Avon BHOP-funded programs worked to increase women's knowledge about breast cancer and mammography and increased awareness of the importance of mammograms for early detection of breast cancer. Since 2000, Avon BHOP has distributed over $81 million through more than 1,300 grants nationwide, and has navigated over 1 million women into breast cancer screening.
