CAI manages the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade's Breast Health Outreach Program (BHOP) which funds community-based organizations to provide education, outreach and navigation services for breast cancer screening and treatment to underserved women. CAI has managed grant-making and provided capacity-building support for Avon BHOP since 2000, awarding more than $79 million through more than 1800 grants to community-based agencies nationwide. CAI administers a rigorous application and independent review process to select grant recipients, who in turn have made a major impact on the lives of underserved women across the United States who are in need of breast cancer screening services. Through 2016, Avon BHOP grantees had facilitated more than 1.6 million mammograms and breast examinations and educated over 15 million people on breast cancer awareness. Avon BHOP is funded by the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade.
Since 1992, the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade has raised and awarded more than $815 million worldwide for medical research; access to care; support services; screening and diagnostics; and education and awareness. Funds are raised through many programs, including the sale of special Crusade "pink ribbon" products by Avon independent Sales Representatives; concerts, walks, races and other special events around the world; donations and fundraising by individuals; and the Avon 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer series of weekend events in the U.S.
Progress has been made, but breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide. In fact, every 2 minutes a new diagnosis is made.
