CAI Mourns the Loss of Petra Berrios: A message from our president and founder

on .

Dear Colleagues, Partners and Friends of CAI,

I am deeply saddened to inform you of the recent passing of our beloved colleague, friend and HIV/AIDS advocate, Petra Berrios. For 13 years, Petra served as a trainer, Deputy Director and then Director of the New York State People Living with HIV/AIDS Leadership Training Institute. She devoted her professional life to empowering people living with HIV/AIDS so they could advocate for themselves and their communities, and participate actively in their own health care. As we commemorate this year's World AIDS Day on December 1st and celebrate the 15 year anniversary of the LTI program, we will remember Petra's steadfast dedication to our participants and partners, and all the lives she touched.

To help the Berrios family cover the cost of funeral arrangements, CAI is accepting contributions online here. We also plan to honor Petra and her legacy at an event in February and more information will be made available in the coming months. Petra, who taught us the strength of gentleness and the power of courage, will be dearly missed by all of us at CAI and we send our heartfelt condolences to her family and many friends around the world.

Sincerely,

Barbara Cicatelli
President and Founder
